Crisis Services

Mobile Crisis Response - Call 988

Service Description:


Experiencing a crisis at home, work or the in community, or know someone who is? Mobile Crisis Response services can be initiated by someone who is actively experiencing the following crisis situations or by another person on their behalf:


  • Suicidal thoughts, have a suicidal plan, or have made suicidal threats or actions
  • Acute feelings of loss of control over thoughts, behavior that could harm self or others
  • Decline in functionality or increasing disruptive mood, thoughts, or behavior that is affecting an individual’s ability to function at home, school, work or the community.
  • Urgent intervention is needed to prevent further escalation of the symptoms


NHSS works with insurance Case Managers and partners mental health professionals to ensure individuals transition to the next level of appropriate care.


Service Office Locations: Roanoke and surrounding areas. 


Program Hours:  In-program hours 24 hours / 7 days a week. 


Eligibility:  Individual must be experiencing an active mental health crisis, where urgent intervention is needed to stabilize a crisis and prevent further escalation.

Community Stabilization

Service Description:


There are times when assistance is needed between the transition from one level of care to the next. Community Stabilization provides short-term support while an individual is in transition and assists the individual in remaining in the community and with their natural support system. 


Service Office Locations: Roanoke and surrounding areas. 


Program Hours:  In-program hours 24 hours / 7 days a week. 


Eligibility:  Individuals must:

  • have a mental health diagnosis 
  • be at risk for repeated crisis resulting in a need for intensive or urgent inpatient or outpatient crisis services or in need of additional support to prevent psychiatric hospitalization.
  • be transitioning from higher levels of care and requires support to maintain stabilization while awaiting intake with the next level of care.
